Virginia will compete against North Carolina in the Allstate Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship final on Sunday, May 3. The game will take place at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, with a noon start time and coverage available on ACC Network and WINA radio.
The matchup follows a close regular-season contest between the two teams on April 18, when North Carolina defeated Virginia 16-15 in overtime at Klöckner Stadium. Virginia is aiming for its twentieth overall ACC championship and eighth tournament crown. The Cavaliers last won an ACC Tournament title in 2019, while their most recent shared regular-season title came in 2022.
A win would also mark Virginia’s first victory over North Carolina in an ACC championship game after losing all four previous title meetings with the Tar Heels. Under head coach Lars Tiffany, now in his tenth season, this would be Virginia’s seventh ten-win season.
Historically, Virginia leads the series against North Carolina with a record of 59-34 since their first meeting in 1938. The two programs have met thirteen times during the ACC Tournament, with North Carolina holding a slight edge at seven wins to six. In recent years, Virginia has won nine of the last twelve encounters between the schools.
The Millon brothers—Brendan and McCabe—have been key contributors for Virginia this season. Brendan Millon leads all Division I freshmen nationally in both assists and points per game through May 1. McCabe Millon is among national leaders as well and was named one of twenty-five nominees for college lacrosse’s Tewaaraton Award.
Virginia currently ranks first nationally in assists per game and holds top-ten positions across several other statistical categories including points per game and caused turnovers. Following Sunday’s final, the Cavaliers will await their postseason placement during the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Selection Show later that evening.
