Virginia Tech wrestling head coach Tony Robie announced on May 5 the largest single cash donation in the program’s history, a $1 million gift from Dave and Heidi Jester of Virginia Beach. The donation will be used to support recruiting, staffing, facilities, and other needs for the wrestling program.

The purpose of the Jesters’ contribution is to show their belief in Coach Robie, his staff, and the student-athletes who represent Virginia Tech each season. The gift also includes a matching component that encourages others to contribute.

Robie said, “This is a moment to capture and an opportunity to take advantage of. The Match the Million campaign is something everyone can participate in. We want every fan, every former student-athlete, and every person who has ever believed in what we do here in Blacksburg to be part of this regardless of the amount. The Jesters set the bar, now let’s meet them there.”

All donations made through either the Southeast Regional Training Center (SERTC) or Hokie Club will count toward matching the $1 million goal by May 2027. Supporters are encouraged to make contributions through these channels as part of what is being called the “Match the Million” campaign.

Questions about making a philanthropic contribution can be directed to Evan Massengill at ebmass01@vt.edu.
