Virginia Tech Hokies women’s tennis lost 4-2 to No. 33 Stanford Cardinal in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on April 15.

The match ended Virginia Tech’s season after a strong effort against a nationally ranked opponent.

The Hokies started well, with Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt securing a 6-2 doubles win. Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu followed with another 6-2 victory on Court 1, giving Virginia Tech an early advantage. In singles play, Uslu continued her success by defeating No. 25 Monika Ekstrand with a decisive score of 6-0, 6-1.

However, Virginia Tech faced challenges in other singles matches. The team dropped matches on Courts 2, 3, and 4 without winning more than two games per set. The deciding point came when Myatt was defeated by Stanford’s Sein Myoung in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) on Court 5.

Linda Ziets-Segura was attempting a comeback after losing her first set but taking the second set before her match was abandoned at a score of 2-6, 6-3, and trailing slightly in the third set.

With this result, Virginia Tech concludes its run in the ACC Championship for this season.
