Virginia Tech track and field ends regular season at Liberty Twilight Qualifier

The Virginia Tech track and field team concluded its regular season on May 6 at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The event marked the final opportunity for Hokies athletes to compete before postseason meets. Several athletes secured top finishes, including Conner McClure, who won the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.50 meters (17 feet, 5.75 inches). Erin Kelleher took first place in the women’s pole vault with a collegiate-best mark of 4.27 meters (14 feet), while Kelsey Lovercheck also reached a postseason qualifying standard by clearing 3.92 meters (12 feet, 10.25 inches).

Ben Reynolds achieved his first victory of the season in the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:46.69. On the women’s side of that event, Jeorgiana Gavalas finished second in 4:23.42 and Elizabeth Coe placed third at 4:25.04.

Roan Kelly led the men’s 800 meters with a winning time of 1:49.64, joined on the podium by William Winter who finished third in that race at 1:51.15.

In other results from Wednesday’s meet, Kenza Elakari placed second in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:07.55—her second consecutive podium finish this season—and Kylie Bonser also earned her second straight runner-up result by finishing the women’s 5,000 meters in a time of 17:25.67.

Alex Hoffman recorded a mark of 53.33 meters (174 feet,11.5 inches) to take second place in the hammer throw event.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will begin its postseason schedule May 14-16 at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Owsley B.Frazier Cardinal Park in Louisville.
