Virginia Tech concluded its softball season on May 17 after a 7-2 defeat to Louisiana State University in the Baton Rouge Regional Final at Tiger Park.
The game marked the end of a strong season for Virginia Tech, which finished with a record of 48-12 and an 18-6 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Hokies had advanced to their seventh consecutive NCAA Regional and reached their sixth Regional Final under head coach Pete D’Amour.
In Sunday’s matchup, Virginia Tech took an early lead. Addison Foster opened the bottom of the first inning with a double and scored on Jordan Lynch’s RBI single. In the second inning, Foster drove in another run after Annika Rohs singled and advanced on a passed ball, giving the Hokies a 2-0 advantage.
LSU responded by scoring seven unanswered runs across the third, fifth, and sixth innings. The Tigers’ rally began with four runs in the third inning from a home run, two-RBI single, and blooper double. Two more runs came in the fifth following walks that set up an infield single and fielder’s choice. LSU added another run in the sixth to secure their victory.
Game notes highlighted individual achievements for Virginia Tech players this season. Addison Foster increased her single-season doubles record to 20 with her leadoff hit; she also led her team with two hits during this final game and is now nine hits away from reaching 200 career hits. Jordan Lynch ended her sophomore year surpassing 150 career hits, finishing at 151 total. Pitcher Bree Carrico recorded just her second loss of what was otherwise a standout year for her as ACC Freshman of the Year, posting a record of 15 wins against two losses with an earned run average (ERA) of 1.88.
The conclusion of this season marks another notable campaign under D’Amour’s leadership as Virginia Tech continues its streak of postseason appearances.
