Virginia Tech earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2022 during the 2026 baseball season, finishing with a 30-26 overall record and a 15-15 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, according to a June 1 announcement. The Hokies secured seventh place in the conference, received a first-round bye in the ACC Baseball Tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals, and ultimately gained an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament.

The team was selected as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, marking Virginia Tech’s twelfth tournament appearance and second under head coach John Szefc. The Hokies entered postseason play after winning four consecutive ACC series against Pitt, NC State, Cal, and Clemson.

Freshman infielder Ethan Ball was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team after recording 18 doubles, 17 home runs, and a .660 slugging percentage. His performance contributed significantly to Virginia Tech’s postseason run and earned him a spot on the NCAA Los Angeles Regional All-Tournament Team. Junior infielder Pete Daniel led with a .335 batting average while Ethan Gibson hit .329. Senior catcher Henry Cooke posted a .347 average during May.

The offense reached peak form during the ACC Tournament by setting season highs with 22 runs, 28 hits, and 20 RBIs; three home runs were recorded against nationally ranked North Carolina in the quarterfinals. On pitching staff duties, Brett Renfrow made All-ACC Second Team with his consistency—posting a 5-4 record alongside an ERA of 4.64 and tallying eighty-eight strikeouts.

A highlight came on April 14 when five pitchers combined for a no-hitter against Radford—the sixth such achievement in program history and first since 2000—which sparked Virginia Tech’s late-season surge into postseason contention.

With young talent emerging throughout its roster and another NCAA appearance secured for experience-building purposes across players new and old alike, Virginia Tech finished strong amid one of college baseball’s most challenging schedules.
