The NCAA women’s golf selection committee announced on April 29 that the University of Virginia will compete as the No. 6 seed at the Chapel Hill Regional, which will be held at UNC Finley Golf Course from May 11 to May 13.
This marks Virginia’s twentieth appearance in an NCAA Regional Championship over its twenty-two competitive seasons since starting its program in 2004. The only exception was in 2020, when the championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chapel Hill Regional is one of six sites that will determine which teams and individuals advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship later this month. Each regional includes twelve teams and six individual competitors not affiliated with those teams. At each site, the five lowest-scoring teams and one low-scoring individual not on those advancing teams will qualify for the national finals, set for May 22–27 at Omni LaCosta Resort in Carlsbad, California.
Teams competing alongside Virginia at Chapel Hill include Texas (top seed), North Carolina, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Kent State, Michigan State, NC State, High Point, Furman, Richmond and Howard. Six individuals from various schools are also set to compete at this site.
Other regional sites are located in Ann Arbor (hosted by Michigan), Simpsonville (Louisville), Stanford (Stanford), Tallahassee (Florida State) and Waco (Baylor). Each features a similar structure of twelve teams and six individuals vying for a spot at nationals.
With another opportunity to reach the national championship stage ahead of them this spring, Virginia looks to build on its long-standing record of postseason participation.
