The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled highway work in the Culpeper District for the week of May 26-30, 2025. This schedule is contingent on weather conditions and includes potential restrictions on traffic movements and reduced speed limits in work zones.

In an effort to ease travel during the holiday weekend, VDOT will suspend many highway work zones and lift temporary lane closures from noon on Friday, May 23 until noon on Tuesday, May 27. However, some semi-permanent work zones may remain in place.

Motorists are encouraged to check VDOT’s Travel Advisories for up-to-date information about travel alerts in their area. Additional updates can be found on X (formerly Twitter) at @VaDOTCulp and VDOT’s website.

In Albemarle County, various operations including mowing, ditch cleaning, bridge inspection, storm drain work, roundabout construction, and turn lane construction are planned. For instance, mobile lane closures for mowing are expected along Interstate 64 between mile markers 100 and 131.1 daily from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m., while ditch cleaning will occur westbound between mile markers 113 and 100 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Culpeper County, motorists should anticipate mobile lane closures due to mowing along U.S. Route 29 (James Monroe Highway). Additionally, utility work under a VDOT permit may cause lane closures along U.S. Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) and U.S. Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway).

Fauquier County will see roadway improvements with alternating lane closures along U.S. Route 17 Business (Broadview Avenue), as well as paving operations on several routes including U.S. Route 17 (Warrenton Road) and Route 55 (John Marshall Highway).

Other counties within the district such as Fluvanna County will experience bridge inspections on roads like Route 799 (Beaverdam Road), while Greene County anticipates shoulder closures due to traffic engineering projects.

Louisa County will have mobile lane closures along Interstate 64 with slow-moving equipment between mile markers 131 and 147.8 daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., among other works like utility operations affecting roads such as U.S. Route 33 (Jefferson Highway).

For those traveling through Madison County or Orange County, soil boring activities might cause delays due to mobile alternating lane closures controlled by flaggers.

Rappahannock County has scheduled paving that may lead to alternating lane closures in areas such as Route 622 (Harris Hollow Road) throughout the day from Monday through Thursday.

Drivers are advised to remain cautious around these work zones for their safety and that of the workers involved.
