The Virginia Police Benevolent Association (VPBA) has endorsed incumbent Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) for re-election, following Miyares recent endorsement by 78 Virginia sheriffs.
“It’s an honor to have the Virginia Police Benevolent Association’s trust and support in this election,” said Miyares in a Facebook post. “Law-and-order leadership matters, and I’m proud to stand with the courageous men and women who wear the badge and protect Virginians every day.”
VPBA spokesman Rich Goszka told the Washington Post that his group felt “comfortable sticking with Miyares” because “he’s a more law-and-order kind of guy.”
“We felt confident in him to continue leading the state,” said Goszka.
The VPBA also endorsed Miyares in 2021.
The 2025 endorsement comes a few weeks after 78 Virginia sheriffs endorsed Miyares’ re-election, reported The Daily Signal.
“I’ve served as sheriff of Gloucester County for nearly 14 years, and in that time, I have never seen an attorney general more committed to supporting law enforcement than Jason Miyares,” said Gloucester County Sheriff Darrell Warren, according to The Daily Signal.
Miyares is a former prosecutor and state delegate from Virginia Beach who was elected as the state’s 48th attorney general in 2021. The son of a Cuban immigrant, he earned his undergraduate degree from James Madison University and his law degree from the College of William & Mary. Before serving as attorney general, Miyares worked in the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2016 to 2022.
The VPBA is a division of the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Inc., a nonprofit professional organization representing full-time and retired law enforcement and correctional officers from federal, state, county, and municipal agencies in Virginia. Funded by membership dues and citizen contributions, the association provides legal, legislative, and disciplinary representation to members, as well as accidental death benefits to beneficiaries. It prohibits members from participating in strikes and engages in political action on behalf of members.
