Virginia advanced six places on April 24 after recording a team score of 10-under-par, 278 in the second round of the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Golf Championship. The Cavaliers’ performance matched Stanford for the lowest round of the day and placed them in second position overall with a two-round total of seven under par.

The movement up the leaderboard is significant as only the top eight teams from stroke play will progress to match play, which determines the tournament champion. Virginia’s strong showing improves their chances ahead of Saturday’s final stroke play round.

Senior Ben James led Virginia with a four-under-par, 68, making five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 thirteenth hole. This marks his fourth career round in the sixties at an ACC Championship event. Bryan Lee also shot a four-under-par, 68—an improvement over his opening-round score—and climbed thirty-six spots on the individual leaderboard to tie for twenty-fourth place. Graduate student Paul Chang posted a two-under-par, 70 and moved into seventeenth position overall.

After two rounds, Stanford leads at twenty-three under par followed by Virginia at seven under and North Carolina at five under. Other teams within reach include Louisville and Wake Forest.

Virginia will begin its third round at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 25. The quarterfinals and semifinals for match play are scheduled for Sunday.
