Virginia advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship match play semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Louisville on April 26, but its afternoon semifinal against North Carolina was suspended due to darkness. The match will resume Monday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
The suspension came after all five matches in the semifinal were through at least twelve holes. Bryan Lee led his match by one hole through thirteen, and Paul Chang was two up through thirteen holes. Michael Lee and Ben James were tied in their respective matches after fourteen holes, while Josh Duangmanee trailed by one with three holes remaining.
Earlier in the day, Virginia defeated Louisville with wins from Chang, James, and Michael Lee. Chang won his quarterfinal match by six and four, while James won four and two. Michael Lee secured Virginia’s spot in the semifinals by birdieing the first playoff hole against Warren Thomis.
The tournament experienced a two-hour weather delay between the quarterfinals and semifinals at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club. The semifinals and final are scheduled to air live on ACCNX on Monday morning.
Last year, Virginia won the ACC Match Play Final against North Carolina thanks to Bryan Lee’s victory on the eighteenth hole of the final pairing. Four current Cavaliers—Chang, James, Duangmanee, and Bryan Lee—and two current Tar Heels—Sandhu and Roscich—were part of last season’s lineup.
