The Virginia Catholic Conference announced on April 14 that the Virginia March for Life will take place in Richmond on April 22. The event comes as a response to a proposed constitutional amendment passed by the General Assembly, which would allow nearly unlimited abortion at any stage of pregnancy and is set to appear on Virginians’ ballots this November.
Organizers say the march aims to bring together advocates who oppose the amendment and support life. The day will begin with a rally at 10 a.m., followed by the march starting at 11 a.m. For the first time, attendees can register for training sessions after the march at 12:30 p.m., designed to help prepare advocates to work against what organizers call an extreme abortion amendment.
The Virginia Catholic Conference encourages public participation, stating that continued witness at the state capitol is needed “for life and against this radical constitutional amendment.” The group also invites individuals who are not part of its advocacy network to sign up for regular email alerts and updates, and urges supporters to follow its social media channels.
In addition, resources are available for pregnant individuals seeking assistance through services offered by both dioceses represented by the conference.
“In prayer and in public, your voices are urgently needed to bring Gospel values to bear on vital decisions being made by those who represent you,” said representatives from the Virginia Catholic Conference.
The event reflects ongoing debates over abortion policy in Virginia ahead of an important ballot measure later this year.
