Virginia earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament and will host Georgetown on Sunday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m., according to a May 3 announcement from the university.

The selection comes after Virginia secured its 20th Atlantic Coast Conference championship. The game against Georgetown marks an important step for the Cavaliers as they continue their postseason run.

Under head coach Lars Tiffany, Virginia is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and its forty-fourth overall. The upcoming match will be the program’s thirty-second NCAA Tournament game held in Charlottesville and nineteenth at Klöckner Stadium.

Virginia leads the all-time series against Georgetown with six wins and no losses. Four of those victories have come during previous NCAA Tournament meetings, including their last encounter in the quarterfinals of the 2023 tournament, where Virginia won by a score of 17-14.

The winner between Virginia and Georgetown will advance to face either fourth-seeded Richmond or Duke in the quarterfinals at Delaware Stadium on Sunday, May 17.

This year, the University of Virginia is also set to host Championship Weekend for men’s lacrosse at Scott Stadium from May 23-25. As has been tradition for forty consecutive years, Memorial Day (May 25) will feature Division I’s title game as a standalone finale.
