The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is preparing for the spring mowing season in the Bristol District. This initiative is part of VDOT’s efforts to maintain safe and well-kept roadways.
The Bristol District covers over 7,400 lane miles of interstate, primary, and secondary highways. VDOT is urging drivers to remain alert and prioritize safety as mowing crews work along roadsides.
“Mowing season has our crews working along the edge of busy roadways,” said Tabitha Crowder, P.E., Bristol District Engineer. “We’re asking drivers to pay close attention to ‘mowing ahead’ signs, to monitor their speed and give our employees the space they need to do their jobs safely.”
VDOT’s mowing schedule usually includes three cycles: May/June, July/August, and mid-September to late October. However, adjustments may be made based on local needs, population density, or seasonal weather conditions.
VDOT encourages all motorists to stay vigilant during the mowing season to ensure a safer summer on Virginia’s highways.
