The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is monitoring a winter weather system that is expected to bring snow to the Culpeper District on Sunday. Forecasts suggest that northern areas of the district, including Fauquier, Rappahannock, Madison and Culpeper counties, could see between 1 and 3 inches of snow. Lighter snow may occur in other parts of the district as well. The snowfall is anticipated to begin Sunday morning and continue into the evening.
VDOT crews are keeping track of weather conditions and have equipment and personnel ready to treat roads if needed. “Equipment and personnel are ready to respond if accumulations occur,” according to VDOT.
Motorists are advised to stay updated on local forecasts and use caution while traveling on Sunday. Snow-covered or slick spots may develop, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads overnight. Drivers should reduce speed and allow extra following distance.
VDOT encourages drivers to get current road condition updates from its Virginia 511 system through its website at https://511.vdot.virginia.gov, by downloading the free mobile app, or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. The agency also offers a Customer Service Center available 24 hours a day for questions or reports about hazardous road conditions.
