Highway work is scheduled across several counties in the Lynchburg District from September 15 to 21, with possible delays or cancellations due to weather or other issues. District-wide maintenance will include bridge and guardrail repairs, tree and brush removal, pothole and surface work, paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.
In Campbell County, southbound lanes on Route 29 just south of Lynchburg Regional Airport will have nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting September 17 for structure recoating and removal of a work platform beneath the structure. The estimated completion is October 2025.
Halifax County will see milling and paving on Route 58 eastbound at the intersection with Route 501 (Huell Mathews Highway), with lane closures expected nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., continuing into the week of September 15.
In Nelson County, Route 6 (Afton Mountain Road) between Route 151 (Critzer Shop Road) and Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) is closed for milling and paving until an estimated completion in October 2025. A detour has been posted. Also in Nelson County, the bridge on Route 653 (Wilson Road) over the Norfolk Southern Railroad remains closed with reopening projected for November 2025.
Pittsylvania County’s Route 802 (Hodnetts Mill Road) is closed from Route 793 (Cherrystone Lake Road) to the intersection of Route 801 (Dry Bridge Road) for culvert replacement until November 2025.
Prince Edward County will have lane closures on Route 360 (Patrick Henry Highway) west of Meherrin for crossover construction through October. On Route 628 (Germantown Road), traffic has been reduced to one lane over the Rte.15/460 Bypass with temporary signals; related lane closures are also expected on Prince Edward Highway until an estimated completion in October.
