Highway maintenance and construction projects are scheduled across the Lynchburg District from September 8 to 14, 2025, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Work may be delayed or canceled due to weather or other unforeseen issues. Motorists seeking current information are advised to call 511 or visit https://511.vdot.virginia.gov.

District-wide activities will include bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush and tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatment and paving operations, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.

In Campbell County, Route 622 (Depot Road) remains closed for culvert replacement between Route 24/501 and Route 738. The closure began on July 28 and is expected to continue until September 2025.

Halifax County will see milling and paving along Route 58 eastbound (Bill Tuck Highway) at the intersection with Route 501 (Huell Mathews Highway), requiring nightly lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the week of September 8. Additionally, Route 501 southbound (Halifax Road) from Powell Road to Hamilton Blvd. will undergo similar work with lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., also during the week of September 8. On Route 662 (Ashton Hall Road), a culvert replacement has closed the road between River Road (Route 659) and Melon Road (Route 658), with completion anticipated in September.

In Nelson County, milling and paving on Route 6 (Afton Mountain Road) between Critzer Shop Road (Route 151) and Rockfish Gap Turnpike (Route 250) have resulted in a full closure; detours are posted with an estimated completion in October. Bridge replacement on Wilson Road (Route 653) over the Norfolk Southern Railroad continues; that section remains closed until November.

Prince Edward County motorists should expect lane closures for crossover construction on Patrick Henry Highway (Route 360), west of Meherrin, through October. On Germantown Road (Route 628), traffic is reduced to one lane over the Rte.15/460 Bypass with temporary signals in place; related lane closures on Prince Edward Highway are also planned through October.

Other counties including Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lynchburg City proper, and Pittsylvania will experience ongoing district-wide maintenance activities as described above.
