The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a section of the Virginia Capital Trail in James City County for bridge repairs. The closure is planned to begin as early as December 1 and will last about two to three weeks, depending on weather conditions.

The affected area is along John Tyler Highway, from just east of Governor’s Landing Road to Heritage Landing Road, between mile markers 3 and 4 on the Jamestown leg of the trail. During this period, crews will replace the deck and substructure of the bridge.

According to VDOT, “As part of the bridge deck replacement, crews will be installing new composite decking boards with added texture to improve friction for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. This new composite decking is designed to provide a safe and reliable riding or walking surface.”
