The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a schedule of lane closures on Interstate 95 in Hanover County due to bridge rehabilitation work. According to the statement, the closures will occur near Doswell, between mile markers 97.6 and 95.6.

The operation is designed to rehabilitate the Interstate 95 bridge over the South Anna River, beginning on March 3. As the project proceeds, lane closures are planned in a phased manner to accommodate construction activities.

“Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to rehabilitate the Interstate 95 bridge over the South Anna River on Monday, March 3,” stated VDOT. This will require a series of extended lane closures on this section of the highway.

Initially, single left lane closures will extend from mile marker 97.6 to 95.6 starting at 9 p.m. on March 3, continuing until 9 a.m. on March 6. Following this, additional alternating single and double-lane closures are planned from 9 p.m. on March 31 until 9 a.m. on April 3. Subsequent closures are scheduled from April 7 to April 10 and April 14 to April 17.

On March 27, the lane closures will shift to the inside lanes of I-95 southbound near Doswell, specifically between mile markers 96 and 95. Both shoulders will be closed, reducing lane widths to 11 feet and necessitating the presence of construction vehicles in the work zone.

Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and are encouraged to find alternative routes to bypass severe traffic backups. “Motorists should anticipate significant delays. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes during this period to avoid severe backups and ensure smoother travel,” VDOT advised.

For those with questions about the project, VDOT has provided a customer service hotline at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
