The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in collaboration with Frederick County, is requesting public input for a transportation study on Route 7 (Berryville Pike). The focus is on the section from Greenwood Road to the eastern limits of Frederick County. The aim is to develop recommendations addressing safety concerns, particularly at crash-prone areas linked to high speeds.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to participate by completing an online survey available from May 5-19, 2025. VDOT emphasizes that community feedback will help identify existing issues and shape recommendations for potential improvements. These findings will be evaluated and presented during the next phase of the study, which will include further opportunities for public comment.

The survey can be accessed at https://publicinput.com/st-25-05 and includes a translation tool for various languages. Comments can also be submitted via email to brad.reed@vdot.virginia.gov or mailed to Brad Reed at VDOT’s Staunton District office.

This initiative is part of the Project Pipeline program, established by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline focuses on performance-based planning to find cost-effective solutions for multimodal transportation needs across Virginia. It involves cooperation between Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), VDOT, and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).

The study is slated for completion in summer 2026 but does not determine construction timelines for any proposed improvements. It aims to recommend projects that could qualify for funding through programs like SMART SCALE, Revenue Sharing, and the Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), as well as other regional and local sources.

VDOT’s Staunton District serves several counties including Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany, and Bath. Updates can be followed on their social media platforms such as Facebook and X (Twitter).
