The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public feedback on a transportation study focused on Route 419, also known as Electric Road, in Roanoke County. The study area extends from Starkey Road to Springwood Park Drive and aims to assess potential improvements in roadway and pedestrian safety, traffic flow preservation, and multi-modal accessibility.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to participate in an online survey available until June 16. “Community input received through this survey will help the study team identify existing issues along the study corridor,” VDOT stated. This feedback will be instrumental in developing recommendations for future improvements.
The Project Pipeline program, initiated by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB), oversees this study. It is a performance-based planning initiative aimed at identifying cost-effective solutions for Virginia’s transportation needs. The program is managed by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in partnership with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
In collaboration with Roanoke County and the Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization, the Commonwealth seeks to develop targeted improvements that minimize community impact while addressing priority needs effectively. While the study does not set construction dates for any proposed changes, it is expected to conclude by summer 2026. The final plan will outline a multimodal investment strategy that could secure funding through programs such as SMART SCALE.
