The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in collaboration with King William County and the Town of West Point, is seeking public input on proposed improvements to Route 30 (King William Avenue). The agency will host a public meeting on Wednesday, October 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Point Branch Library, located at 433 12th Street in West Point.

This initiative follows a transportation study that examined safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians along Route 30 between Mount Olive Cohoke Road and Route 33. The study also looked into traffic congestion and access management as part of VDOT’s Strategically Targeted and Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program.

Public feedback was previously collected in spring 2025 to understand traveler experiences on this corridor. The current phase presents draft recommendations for public comment before finalizing the study report. No construction schedules are included at this stage; the concepts are intended for possible future funding applications.

The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format, allowing attendees to ask questions directly to staff members. If inclement weather occurs, the session will be rescheduled for Monday, December 1, at the same time and location.

An online survey will be available starting October 15 on the project page at https://vdot.virginia.gov/Route30Study. Comments can be submitted through October 31.

VDOT planners and engineers work with local officials through the STARS program to address significant safety and congestion issues across Virginia.

Individuals preferring to provide feedback by mail or email may send their comments to Casandra Lord, VDOT Study Manager, at 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405 or via email to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Route 30 Study” referenced in the subject line.
