The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public input on current travel conditions along Route 14 in Gloucester County as part of a transportation study. This initiative, under the Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, aims to evaluate potential safety and operational improvements on Route 14 between Route 17 Business (Main Street) and Ware Neck Road.
The study’s objective is to identify needs related to safety, congestion, access management, and bicycle/pedestrian accommodations within the designated area. The project involves collaboration with Gloucester County, the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, and the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization.
Feedback collected during this phase will guide which areas along Route 14 should be examined for possible enhancements. An online survey is available for public comments at https://publicinput.com/route14study until March 24, 2025.
VDOT planners and engineers are working alongside local planners and stakeholders through the STARS program to tackle critical safety and traffic congestion issues at significant locations across Virginia. Draft recommendations for potential projects along Route 14 will be presented to the public in fall 2025, allowing further commentary before finalizing the plan.
This study does not establish construction dates but will develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.
