The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is requesting public input on its STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study, which is evaluating possible safety, operational, transit, and bicycle/pedestrian improvements along a five-mile section of Hoadly Road in Prince William County. The area under review stretches from Dumfries Road (Route 234) to Prince William Parkway (Route 294), with daily traffic counts ranging from 12,000 to 25,000 vehicles and a posted speed limit of 50 mph.

Earlier this year, VDOT gathered feedback on corridor priorities during an initial round of public involvement. According to the department, “This feedback was used to help develop improvement alternatives that are being evaluated and presented during this round of public involvement.”

The proposed alternatives target several intersections and areas along the corridor:

– Hoadly Road at Dumfries Road/Dumfries Road at Walton Drive
– Hoadly Road at Den Hollow Court
– Hoadly Road at Purcell Road/Dale Boulevard
– Hoadly Road at Websters Way/Lost Creek Court
– Hoadly Road at Galveston Court/Ridgefield Village Drive
– Hoadly Road at Prince William Parkway
– Corridor-wide improvements

Residents can participate in the survey until December 15. The survey offers translation tools for Spanish and other languages. Comments may also be submitted by email to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Hoadly Road STARS Study” in the subject line or mailed to Ms. Xiao Cui at the VDOT Fairfax office through December 15.

The study’s completion is anticipated for mid-2026. While STARS studies identify potential improvements, they do not set construction timelines; instead, they provide proposals that local governments can use when seeking funding.

VDOT states: “VDOT ensures nondiscrimination and equal employment in all programs and activities in accordance with Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended.” For those needing additional information or assistance due to disabilities or limited English proficiency, contact details are provided for VDOT Civil Rights services.
