The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public input on a transportation study focused on Prices Fork Road, covering areas between McCoy Road and North Main Street in the Town of Blacksburg and Montgomery County. The study aims to assess potential improvements in roadway and pedestrian safety, multimodal accessibility, connectivity, and transportation demand management.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to participate by completing an online survey available until June 2. VDOT will use the feedback from this survey to identify current issues along the corridor and develop recommendations for improvements. These recommendations will be evaluated in the next phase of the study, which will include another opportunity for public comment.
The survey is accessible at https://publicinput.com/sa-25-01-02 and includes a translation tool for other languages. Comments can also be emailed to William.Crawford@vdot.virginia.gov or sent via mail to William Crawford at VDOT’s office in Salem.
This initiative is part of the Project Pipeline program established by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). The program focuses on identifying cost-effective solutions for Virginia’s multimodal transportation needs through performance-based planning. It is managed by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), with collaboration from VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
In partnership with local entities such as the Town of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, and the New River Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization, VDOT aims to develop targeted improvements that minimize community impacts while addressing priority needs effectively. Although no construction dates have been set, the final plan will provide a strategy for securing funding through various programs like SMART SCALE.
