The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host a citizen information meeting on November 6 to discuss the proposed alternative for the I-264/Independence Boulevard Interchange Improvement Study in Virginia Beach. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thalia Elementary School, located at 421 Thalia Road.

The ongoing study is examining traffic patterns at the ramps and nearby signalized intersections at the I-264 and Independence Boulevard interchange. Its main goal is to identify needs along the I-264 mainline and assess options for long-term operational and safety improvements to the ramp configuration. A proposed alternative has been developed with the aim of improving safety, enhancing traffic flow, and supporting future transportation demands in this key growth area within Hampton Roads.

At the meeting, members of the public can review project exhibits, learn more about the study, and speak directly with VDOT representatives. The format will be open house style without a formal presentation. Media are also invited to attend.

Feedback on the proposed alternatives can be provided orally or in writing during the meeting. Comments may also be submitted by November 16, 2025, to Caleb Brooks at VDOT’s Suffolk office or via email at Caleb.Brooks@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Submissions should reference “I-264/Independence Boulevard Interchange Improvement Study” in the subject line.

More details about the study are available on VDOT’s website: https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/projects/hampton-roads-district/i-264independence-boulevard-interchange-access-report-study/
