The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in collaboration with Loudoun County and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), is conducting a study to explore potential enhancements along Arcola Mills Drive. This project spans from Stone Springs Boulevard to Loudoun County Parkway.
VDOT is seeking input from residents and commuters through an online survey focused on this approximately one-mile stretch. The study aims to address safety, multimodal accessibility for bicycles, pedestrians, and transit, as well as congestion mitigation and transportation demand management needs.
Feedback collected will assist the study team in understanding current transportation issues within the corridor. It will also contribute to developing recommendations for potential improvements, which will be shared in the next phase of the study. This phase will include another opportunity for public feedback.
The survey is available until June 16 and includes a translation tool for other languages. Comments can also be sent via email to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Arcola Mills Drive Project Pipeline Study” in the subject line or mailed to Mr. Bobby Mangalath at VDOT’s Fairfax office.
This initiative is part of the Project Pipeline program initiated by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). The program focuses on performance-based planning to identify cost-effective solutions for Virginia’s multimodal transportation needs. It is managed by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI) alongside VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
The study is projected to conclude by summer 2026 but does not establish construction timelines for any proposed improvements. It will propose projects, solutions, and investment strategies that could be considered for statewide funding programs like Smart Scale, Revenue Sharing, and the Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), along with regional and local funding sources.
