The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is requesting public input on four transportation studies aimed at assessing potential safety improvements in Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover counties, as well as the Town of Clarksville. These studies are part of a broader effort to enhance roadway safety along specific corridors.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to participate in online surveys available from May 12 to May 31. Feedback collected will assist the study team in identifying current issues along these corridors and developing recommendations for potential improvements. The next phase of the studies will include another opportunity for public comment.

In Chesterfield County, the study focuses on Route 150 (Chippenham Parkway) between Dalebrook Drive and I-95. In Henrico County, the study examines Route 627 (Richmond-Henrico Turnpike/Meadowbridge Road) between Azelea Avenue and I-295. Hanover County’s study looks at Route 642 (Bell Creek Road) from Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) to Cold Harbor Road. Lastly, in the Town of Clarksville, U.S. Route 58 and Route 15 (Clarksville Bypass) are under review for cost-effective alternatives addressing VTrans needs such as safety and access.

These initiatives fall under the Project Pipeline program created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). The program aims to identify cost-effective solutions for multimodal transportation needs across Virginia through performance-based planning. It is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).

The studies are anticipated to conclude by summer 2026 but do not establish construction dates for any proposed improvements. They will provide recommendations that could be considered for statewide funding programs like SMART SCALE, Revenue Sharing, and Virginia Highway Safety Improvements Program.
