The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public input on a transportation study for East Main Street (Route 11) in the City of Radford. The area under review stretches from Lee Highway (Route 11) to Tyler Avenue (Route 177). The study focuses on possible improvements for roadway and pedestrian safety, as well as ways to enhance accessibility for bicycles, pedestrians, and transit users.
Residents and travelers are invited to participate in an online survey about proposed changes along this corridor. The survey is open from December 8 through December 22 and can be accessed at https://publicinput.com/sa-25-03alts. Feedback collected will help VDOT and local officials refine their recommendations and determine if they should pursue future funding opportunities. Survey responses can also be submitted via email to William.Crawford@VDOT.Virginia.gov or by mail to Will Crawford at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem office.
“This study is being conducted as part of the Project Pipeline program, which was created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).”
According to VDOT, this effort involves partnerships with the City of Radford and the New River Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization. The goal is to develop targeted improvements that address priority needs while minimizing community impacts. The study does not establish construction dates but aims to create a plan that could help secure funding through programs such as SMART SCALE or revenue sharing.
The final report from this study is expected in summer 2026, outlining investment strategies for potential future projects.
