The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting public feedback on a study examining possible improvements to Langston Boulevard (Route 29) in Arlington. The STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study focuses on the segment between North Veitch Street and North Lynn Street, which sees an average of 11,000 vehicles daily.

Speed limits along this stretch vary: from North Veitch Street to North Nash Street, the posted limit is 40 mph, while from North Nash Street to North Lynn Street it drops to 30 mph. The current phase of public involvement builds on earlier feedback gathered this year, which helped shape the improvement alternatives now under consideration.

Proposed changes target several intersections within the corridor, including:
– Langston Boulevard at North Veitch Street
– Northbound Langston Boulevard at North Uhle Street
– Southbound Langston Boulevard at North Scott Street
– Both directions at North Quinn Street
– Southbound at North Oak Street
– Both directions at the intersection with North Lynn Street/I-66 ramps

Community members can submit comments through a survey available until December 4. The survey offers translation tools for Spanish and other languages. Feedback may also be sent by email to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Langston Boulevard STARS Study” in the subject line or mailed to Ms. Manasi Phadnis at VDOT’s Fairfax office through December 4.

According to VDOT, “STARS studies do not set construction dates for any improvements but develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.” The agency expects the study to conclude in mid-2026.

VDOT states: “VDOT ensures nondiscrimination and equal employment in all programs and activities in accordance with Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended. If you need more information or special assistance for persons with disabilities or limited English proficiency, contact VDOT Civil Rights at 703-259-1775 or TTY/TDD 711.”
