The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in collaboration with Gloucester County, is seeking public input on two ongoing transportation studies focusing on Route 17 in Gloucester. An in-person meeting is scheduled for November 19, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gloucester High School.

One study examines the segment of Route 17 between Short Lane and Featherbed Lane under VDOT’s Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program. The other evaluates the stretch between Brays Point Road and Guinea Road as part of the Project Pipeline program.

Both studies aim to develop project concepts that local governments and planning organizations may pursue through future funding applications. The focus areas include reducing congestion, improving safety, and enhancing access for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.

Draft recommendations are being shared with the public before finalizing the reports. There are currently no scheduled construction dates associated with these projects.

“Community input received through online surveys in Spring 2025 helped the study teams identify existing issues along these study corridors and develop recommendations for potential improvements,” according to VDOT.

As part of the next phase, residents are invited to review proposed improvements and provide feedback either at the public meeting or online. Meeting materials and an online survey will be available starting November 19 until December 5.

For those needing more information about civil rights or special assistance due to disabilities or limited English proficiency, VDOT Fredericksburg District can be contacted at 540-899-4288 or TTY/TDD 711.
