The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced an upcoming information meeting to discuss two transportation studies in Russell County and Richlands. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 17, from 4-6 p.m. at Southwest Virginia Community College in Cedar Bluff.
The studies focus on the intersection of Route 19 and Alternate Route 58 in Russell County, as well as Route 67 at the Route 460 exit 2 ramps and along Front Street/2nd Street in Richlands. Both projects aim to address safety concerns, congestion issues, and ways to maintain smooth traffic flow. Additionally, the Richlands study will consider whether it is feasible to reconfigure part of downtown streets along Front Street and Second Street.
VDOT is inviting public input through online surveys for each study. The survey for Russell County is available from December 8 to December 22 at https://publicinput.com/br-25-02alts. More information about the study can be found at https://vaprojectpipeline.virginia.gov/studies/bristol/br-25-02/, where citizens can also access the survey link.
Similarly, the survey for Richlands is open during the same period at https://publicinput.com/br-25-03alts. Study details and a link to this survey are provided at https://vaprojectpipeline.virginia.gov/studies/bristol/br-25-03/.
“This is the second round of public engagement for both studies, with the first study surveys held in Spring 2025.”
Both studies are part of Project Pipeline, a performance-based planning program created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) that seeks cost-effective solutions for multimodal transportation needs across Virginia.
