The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold two simultaneous public hearings on November 18 to present proposed intersection improvement projects in Orange County. The hearings are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at Locust Grove Elementary School, located at 31208 Constitution Highway, Locust Grove, VA. If inclement weather causes a postponement, the meeting will be rescheduled for December 3 at the same time and location.
One project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow by converting the intersection of Route 3 (Germanna Highway) and Route 20 (Constitution Highway) into a Continuous Green-T intersection. Additionally, the commercial entrance north of Route 20 is planned to be reconstructed as a Reduced Conflict Intersection, also known as a Restricted Crossing U-Turn intersection. More information about this project can be found on the VDOT website at https://vdot.virginia.gov/projects/culpeper-district/route-320-intersection-improvements.
Another proposed project involves replacing the signalized four-leg intersection at Route 20 (Constitution Highway) and U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) in Unionville with a single-lane roundabout. The plan includes access management improvements for nearby intersections and commercial entrances, as well as construction of a shared-use path along Route 20 connecting Village Road to Route 671 (Narrow Gauge Road). Details are available at https://vdot.virginia.gov/projects/culpeper-district/route-20-at-522-roundabout.
According to VDOT, “The purpose of this combined public hearing is to give the public an opportunity to review both projects’ exhibits on display, meet with VDOT representatives, and provide input.” Attendees may offer oral comments during the hearing for either project. Comments must be submitted by December 5 to be included in the public hearing report.
