The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is set to hold a public hearing regarding proposed improvements on a segment of Route 171 near Big Bethel Road in York County. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, June 24, from 5-7 p.m. at The Villages at Kiln Creek Recreation Center in Yorktown.

The project aims to enhance capacity and mobility by widening a 0.6-mile stretch of Victory Boulevard, starting just east of Bowman Terrace and extending to Big Bethel Road. Proposed enhancements include the addition of left-turn lanes on Victory Boulevard to North and South Bowman Terrace, a new eastbound right-turn lane to Big Bethel Road, new shoulders, and a shared-use path along the north side of Victory Boulevard.

The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format without formal presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to review project exhibits, interact with VDOT representatives for inquiries and information, and provide their input.

Members of the public can submit oral or written comments during the hearing or send them by July 4, 2025, to Wali Zaman at VDOT’s Suffolk office or via email. Comments should reference “Route 171 Improvements from East of Bowman Terrace to Big Bethel Road Project Comment.”

Further details about the project are available on VDOT’s website.
