The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced upcoming traffic closures in the Hampton Roads region from May 4 to May 10, 2025. The closures will affect major interstates, ramps, bridges, and tunnels and are contingent upon weather conditions and other factors.

A full directional closure is scheduled at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 for routine tide gate testing. Eastbound traffic will be closed from 2 to 3 a.m., followed by a westbound closure from 3 to 4 a.m. on May 4. Additionally, single-lane closures are planned for eastbound lanes on May 6-7 and westbound lanes on May 5 and May 8 during nighttime hours.

At the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664, an alternating mobile lane closure is set for northbound traffic on May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Berkley Bridge on I-264 will experience westbound lane closures on May 7 starting at 8 p.m. and extending until 5 a.m., with alternating closures northbound at I-464 from May 7 to May 8 during the same timeframe.

VDOT directs commuters to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules of the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58), and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

For the I-64 Gap Segment C Widening project in James City County, single-lane closures will occur both east and westbound, with a full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp at Croaker Road from May 5 to May 10. Brief stoppages are planned for Barnes Road and Six Mount Zion Road from May 5 to May 9.

The I-64 Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) project involves multiple lane and ramp closures. Specifically, the HREL Hampton 4C Project will see alternating lane closures from Mallory Street to LaSalle Avenue, as well as brief stoppages between LaSalle Avenue and the Hampton River Bridge from May 4 to May 9.

The HREL Norfolk 1A project includes continuous lane closures on I-64, ramp closures, and temporary traffic patterns. Closures affect areas from Granby Street to Chesapeake Boulevard and from I-564 east to I-64 east, among others. Similarly, the HREL Newport News/Hampton 4A/4B project brings long-term lane closures and traffic shifts near J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.

VDOT encourages using the 511 system, website, and app for additional lane closure and traffic information.
