Highway maintenance and construction work is scheduled to take place across the Lynchburg District from November 24 to November 30, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that some closures or delays may occur due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Motorists are advised to check for the latest updates by calling 511 or visiting https://511.vdot.virginia.gov.
Crews will be conducting a range of activities throughout the district, including bridge and guardrail maintenance, tree and brush cutting, pothole repairs, paving operations, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.
In Campbell County, two major projects are underway. On Route 29 Business northbound, pedestrian improvements may lead to temporary shoulder or turn lane closures. This project is expected to finish in December 2025. Additionally, an intersection improvement on Route 29 (Wards Road) will close passing lanes in both directions between Route 699 (Gladys Road) and 0.6 miles north of that point until September 2026. Nightly shoulder closures for pedestrian crossing improvements are also planned along Route 460 Business (Timberlake Road) near Enterprise Drive and Oakdale Circle.
Charlotte County’s Route 642 (Mossing Ford Road) bridge over Roanoke Creek remains closed with a detour in place; reopening is estimated for December 2026.
In Nelson County, the bridge replacement on Route 653 (Wilson Road) over the Norfolk Southern Railroad continues with closure at coordinates (37.703194, -78.870712). The project is scheduled for completion by December 2025.
Pittsylvania County has two ongoing projects: a bridge replacement on Route 686 (Markham Road), which requires a road closure and detour until January 2026; and road widening on Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway), where temporary lane closures with flagging operations can be expected through November 2027.
On Prince Edward County’s Route 628 (Germantown Road), traffic is reduced to one lane with temporary signals due to work over the Rte.15/460 Bypass (Prince Edward Highway). Lane closures are anticipated on both roads until November 2025, and drivers are urged to use caution.
The VDOT encourages travelers in all affected counties—including Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Halifax, Lynchburg City—to be mindful of ongoing district-wide activities as described above.
For up-to-date information about these projects or others not listed here, motorists should consult official VDOT resources online or by phone.
