The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the reopening of the Route 693 (Stillhouse Creek Road) bridge over Stillhouse Creek in Albemarle County. This comes after extensive repairs following flood damage the bridge sustained in 2024.

Built in 1932, the bridge was closed on September 24, 2024, after VDOT inspectors identified significant structural damage. The closure was deemed necessary to ensure public safety. A replacement project was swiftly developed to reconstruct the bridge’s damaged abutments and install a new superstructure.

“VDOT quickly developed a replacement project to reconstruct the damaged abutments and install a new superstructure,” VDOT stated. The repair efforts were completed by the Charlottesville bridge crew, and the bridge was reopened on Monday afternoon, April 14.

Travelers can find information on road conditions via updates posted on X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page. Hazardous road conditions can be reported to VDOT’s 24-hour Customer Service Center either online at my.vdot.virginia.gov or via the hotline at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).

Albemarle County is part of VDOT’s Culpeper District, which includes several other counties and the independent City of Charlottesville, which maintains its own road network.
