The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has reopened Route 628, also known as Hazel River Road, following the rehabilitation of a bridge spanning a stream in Culpeper County. The bridge, constructed in 1960, is situated on a gravel road in the northwestern part of the county. It required major repairs, prompting VDOT’s Warrenton bridge crews to replace the old superstructure with a new 24-foot-wide steel beam and timber deck. Additionally, crews repaved the riding surface and 40-foot approaches, thereby extending the bridge’s lifespan.

The construction work commenced on March 17 and reached completion by April 1. The newly rehabilitated bridge is now accessible for all legal loads.
