The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a public hearing to discuss proposed improvements at the intersection of Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) and Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road) in Frederick County. The meeting is scheduled for July 22, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Jordan Springs Elementary School in Stephenson, Virginia.
Citizens are invited to attend the meeting to engage directly with VDOT officials and designers regarding the project. Written comments can be submitted during the meeting or within ten days afterward to Mr. Tim Gregory, Project Manager, at the VDOT office in Staunton. Additionally, oral comments may be recorded at the meeting with assistance from a court reporter.
The project focuses on constructing a single-lane roundabout at the current “T” intersection of Route 11 and Route 761, which will replace the existing traffic signal. This development aims to improve safety by reducing traffic queues.
In terms of traffic volume, Route 11 north of Route 761 had an average daily count of 8,600 vehicles in 2023, projected to rise to 11,200 by 2049. South of Route 761, this number was 16,000 vehicles per day in 2023 and is expected to reach 24,000 by the design year. For Route 761 itself, daily traffic is anticipated to grow from 7,900 vehicles in 2023 to an estimated volume of 14,200 by 2049.
Further details about the project are available on VDOT’s website. The VDOT Staunton District serves multiple counties including Frederick and Shenandoah among others.
