Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are actively monitoring and treating roads in Piedmont Virginia as snow continues to fall. According to recent forecasts, between one and three inches of snow are expected in the Culpeper District, with precipitation tapering off between mid-morning and early afternoon.

Most parts of the Culpeper District are experiencing minor to moderate road conditions. While interstates and primary roads remain clear but wet, road temperatures near or above freezing may cause slick spots. Some secondary roads have moderate conditions with snow and icy patches.

VDOT is urging drivers to avoid travel if possible. Those who must drive should allow extra time for their journeys, reduce speed, increase following distance, use caution on bridges, ramps, and mountain passes—which tend to freeze first—and give space to VDOT crews working on the roads.

“Drivers should stay off the roads, if possible, but if you must travel, please allow extra time to arrive at your destination:

Reduce speed and increase following distance.
Use caution on bridges, ramps, and mountain passes, which freeze first.
Be mindful of VDOT snowplows and equipment and give crews room to work.
Check511Virginiafor real-time road conditions through to your destination before traveling.”

Residents can find local updates about conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District on X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page. Statewide traffic information—including current conditions and access to a network of traffic cameras—is available through the 511Virginia website (https://www.511virginia.org/), the free VDOT 511 mobile app, or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
