The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is evaluating a proposal to restrict through truck traffic on several key secondary routes in King and Queen County. This initiative comes at the request of the county’s Board of Supervisors.
Public signage has been placed along the affected routes to inform travelers that these roads are under consideration for the restriction. These signs are expected to remain in place for a period of 30 days.
The proposed restrictions apply to the following routes:
Route 632 (Hockley Neck Road) from Route 631 (Stevensville Road/Bunker Hill Road) to Route 633 (Mantua Road), covering a distance of approximately 1.7 miles.
Route 633 (Stones Road/Mantua Road) from Route 629 (Walkerton Landing Road) to Route 14 (The Trail), spanning 6.9 miles.
Route 634 (Mt. Elba Road) from Route 629 (Walkerton Landing Road) to Route 633 (Stones Road), covering 1.3 miles.
To accommodate truck traffic, alternate routes have been identified. For sections on Hockley Neck Road and Mt. Elba Road, the alternative path extends 11.2 miles via Route 14 and Walkerton Landing Road. The alternate for Stones Road/Mantua Road is a shorter 5.1-mile route.
Residents and businesses have the opportunity to share their feedback on the proposal. Comments should be sent by May 15, 2025, to VDOT Saluda Residency Administrator Lee McKnight at 1027 General Puller Highway, Saluda, VA 23149.
