The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled highway work in the Culpeper District for the week of May 19-23, 2025. Traffic may be affected by restricted movements and reduced speed limits in various work zones.
From noon on Friday, May 23 until noon on Tuesday, May 27, VDOT will suspend many highway work zones and lift temporary lane closures on interstates and major roads across Virginia. However, semi-permanent work zones might still affect travel during this period. Motorists are advised to check VDOT’s Travel Advisories for updates.

In Albemarle County, several new projects are planned. These include mowing along Interstate 64 with mobile lane closures between mile markers 100 and 131.1 from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m., ditch cleaning westbound between mile markers 113 and 100 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and bridge inspection with alternating lane closures between mile markers 126.5 and 127 during nighttime hours.
Other notable works include storm drain maintenance on U.S. Route 29 (Seminole Trail), roundabout construction at U.S. Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), bridge inspection on Route 22 (Louisa Road), turn lane construction on Route 631 (Rio Road West), roadway improvements in several areas, roadway sweeping on Route 631, traffic engineering shoulder closures in various locations, utility work under VDOT permit affecting multiple routes, and bridge superstructure repairs on Route 601 (Old Ivy Road).
In Culpeper County, mowing operations will occur daily along U.S. Route 29 (James Monroe Highway). Utility work is expected to cause lane and shoulder closures along U.S. Routes such as the James Madison Highway and Zachary Taylor Highway.
Fauquier County will see continued roadway improvements with lane closures along U.S. Routes like Broadview Avenue and Warrenton Road. Mowing operations are planned for Interstate 66 alongside paving activities affecting multiple routes including John Marshall Highway.
Fluvanna County’s schedule includes paving works along Route 633 (Lasley Lane) and bridge inspections on Route 799 (Beaverdam Road).
Greene County’s traffic engineering plans involve right shoulder closures while utility work is set to affect various routes including Madison Road.
In Louisa County, expect mobile lane closures along Interstate 64 as well as piping and ditching operations along U.S. Route 15.
Madison County will undergo soil boring operations affecting routes like Orange Road and S. Blue Ridge Parkway.
Orange County plans roundabout construction impacting roads such as Spotswood Trail while utility works continue under VDOT permits affecting highways like Zachary Taylor Highway.
Finally, Rappahannock County will experience paving activities resulting in alternating lane closures throughout key routes including Harris Hollow Road.
