The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released a traffic alert for the Hampton Roads District, detailing scheduled road closures from May 11 to May 17, 2025. These closures are subject to change due to weather and other factors.
The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 will experience single-lane closures eastbound on May 13 and 15, and westbound on May 12 and 14, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will have alternating mobile single-lane closures northbound on May 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For the James River Bridge on Route 17, there will be alternating mobile single-lane closures in both directions from May 14 to May 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Similarly, the George P. Coleman Bridge will have alternating mobile single-lane closures in both directions on May 13 during the same hours.

On I-64 in Chesapeake, there will be a full ramp closure from I-64 west to I-464 north on May 16 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., while in James City County, there will be several lane and ramp closures as part of the Gap Segment C Widening project throughout the week.
The Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) project will also see various lane closures between Mallory Street and LaSalle Avenue from May 13 to May 15 during nighttime hours.
In Norfolk, alternating single-lane closures are planned for I-564 eastbound and westbound lanes from I-64 to Terminal Boulevard between May 11 and May 17. Additionally, multiple ramps along I-64 will face temporary full closures throughout this period.
Newport News/Hampton’s HREL projects involve multiple lane closures around J. Clyde Morris Boulevard starting as early as May 5 with additional ramp closures scheduled through mid-May.
In Virginia Beach, off-ramp closures from I-264 east to Lynnhaven Parkway are expected nightly from May 11 through May 15. In Norfolk, similar full ramp closure measures apply at Ballentine Boulevard starting mid-May.
Finally, Portsmouth’s segment of I-264 will see full ramp shutdowns at Greenwood Drive exits nightly during this period.
