The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a series of scheduled lane closures and ongoing construction projects across the Fredericksburg District for the week of November 23-29, 2025. The work spans several counties and cities, with activities ranging from guardrail installations to bridge repairs.

In Caroline County, Route 1 will see single lane closures between Ladysmith Road and Rogers Clark Boulevard on Monday and Tuesday for utility work. Frog Level Road will have alternating traffic during the same period for guardrail installation.

For the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County, overnight lane closures are planned at Falmouth Bridge on Route 1 northbound and southbound for pothole patching and concrete repairs from Sunday through Tuesday.

Gloucester County’s Main Street (Route 17 Northbound) will experience alternating lane closures on Monday due to bridge repair work. In King George County, both Route 218 near Little Ferry Road and Route 301 Southbound near Jersey Road will have single lane closures for guardrail installation.

King and Queen County together with King William County will see alternating eastbound lane closures on Route 360 at the county line late Tuesday into Wednesday for Mattaponi River bridge repairs.

The Norris Bridge (Route 3 over the Rappahannock River), connecting Lancaster and Middlesex counties, is scheduled for overnight survey work Monday into Tuesday. Traffic will be managed by automatic flagging devices operated by certified crews.

Richmond County’s Route 360 Eastbound near Newland Road intersection will have single lane closures Monday through Tuesday for guardrail work.

Several roads in Spotsylvania County—including Tidewater Trail (Route 2/17), Courthouse Road (Route 208 Eastbound), Brock Road (Route 608), Harrison Road (Route 620), Breezewood subdivision routes, Loriella Park Subdivision routes—will undergo various improvements such as water main installation, pavement patching, road widening, milling, paving, or guardrail installation at different times throughout the week.

Stafford County’s Route 17 between Poplar Road and Hartwood Church Road is set for median improvements under permit with alternating lane closures. Westbound Route 610 near Groves Lane will also have a single-lane closure for guardrail installation.

Westmoreland County’s Antioch Road (Route 612) is scheduled to have one-way alternating traffic early in the week due to more guardrail installations near Nomini Hall Road.

Beyond these weekly operations, VDOT provided updates on several major ongoing infrastructure projects:

– The northbound bridge rehabilitation project on Route 207 over the Mattaponi River in Caroline County continues until April 2026.
– Intersection improvements are underway at multiple locations along Fredericksburg’s Route 1 corridor with completion expected by June 2026.
– Cheaneys Bridge Road in Essex County remains closed until May next year as its bridge is replaced.
– Gloucester County’s $5.1 million safety improvement project at the intersection of Routes 17 and Woods Cross/Davenport Roads reduces lanes during construction; it should finish by December next year.
– Rock Spring Road in King and Queen County stays closed until December while its bridge is replaced.
– In Lancaster County, Kamps Mill Road remains shut following culvert deterioration; detours are posted pending repair schedules.
– Mathews County is rehabilitating its North End Branch Bridge on Route 14 with one-way traffic signals; completion is slated for June 2026.
– Gardy’s Mill Road at the Northumberland-Westmoreland line stays closed after a dam breach damaged both dam and roadway earlier this year; travelers are advised to use Hampton Hall Road as an alternative route.

– Spotsylvania’s I-95 Exit 126 area sees widening efforts that add lanes to both local roads and ramps as well as new noise barriers—with completion forecasted for September 2027—and Harrison Road reconstruction continues through late summer next year with new turn lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks planned.
– Stafford projects include realignment/widening at Telegraph/Woodstock Lane intersections on Route 1 plus upgrades at Courthouse/Bells Hill/Hope intersections—all expected to complete within two years; details can be found via county resources online.
