The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) plans to close a portion of Route 602, also known as River Road, in Chesterfield County. This closure is scheduled for June 10, weather permitting, and will occur between Route 153 (Military Road) and Route 646 (Taylor Road). The purpose of the closure is to facilitate a pipe replacement project.

The road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that day. Homeowners along this section of River Road will still have access to their properties during the operation.

VDOT has provided detour routes for motorists. Eastbound drivers should proceed north on Route 646 (Taylor Road), continue north on Route 603 (Beaver Bridge Road), then head west on Route 360 (Hull Street Road) into Amelia County via Route 360 (Patrick Henry Highway), before going south on Route 153 (Military Road) back to Route 602 (Bevils Bridge Road/River Road).

For westbound traffic, the suggested detour involves heading north on Route 153 (Military Road), then east on Route 360 (Patrick Henry Highway) into Chesterfield County via Route 360 (Hull Street Road), followed by southward travel on Route 603 (Beaver Bridge Road) and continuing south on Route 646 (Taylor Road) back to River Road.

For any inquiries about this project, individuals can contact VDOT’s customer service center at the phone number: “800-FOR-ROAD” or “800-367-7623”.
