The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on April 17 that nightly lane and ramp closures will take place on Interstate 95 south at mile marker 81 in Henrico County from April 19 to April 25. The center and right lanes, as well as the ramp from U.S. Route 1 (Brook Road) to I-95 south, will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

These closures are expected to affect traffic patterns during overnight hours, with detours posted for motorists using the affected routes. Northbound U.S. Route 1 drivers are advised to travel east on Route 73 (Parham Road) to access the I-95 south ramp, while those traveling southbound should use Wilmer Avenue eastbound and then north on Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) before reaching the I-95 south entrance.

According to the official website, the Virginia Department of Transportation is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating Virginia’s roads, bridges, and tunnels with an emphasis on safety and efficiency in transportation systems across the state.

The agency manages one of the largest state highway networks in the United States by overseeing tens of thousands of lane-miles throughout Virginia according to its official website. VDOT also provides services such as highway maintenance, traffic management—including resources like Virginia’s real-time information system—and issues land-use permits along state routes as reported by its official site.

VDOT serves as a key state agency overseeing planning, construction, and maintenance for roadways as well as bridge and tunnel infrastructure according to its official website. The department has evolved since its origins with the State Highway Commission formed in 1906 into an organization that manages expanding transportation needs across Virginia according to VDOT’s history page.

Headquartered at 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond according to VDOT’s official site, anyone seeking further information or who has questions about this project can contact VDOT’s customer service center at their toll-free number.
