The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced its planned highway work schedule for the Culpeper District from May 19 to May 23, 2025. These operations are subject to weather conditions and may involve restricted traffic movements and reduced speed limits in work zones.

For the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, VDOT will suspend many highway work zones and lift temporary lane closures on major roads across Virginia from noon on Friday, May 23 until noon on Tuesday, May 27. Despite these suspensions, some semi-permanent work zones will remain active.

Motorists can access the latest travel alerts through VDOT’s Travel Advisories or follow updates on X at @VaDOTCulp and on their website at vdot.virginia.gov/travel-traffic/travel-advisories.

In Albemarle County, tree trimming will occur along Interstate 64 with right shoulder closures expected between mile markers 118 and 119. Additionally, pedestrian bridge construction over U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) will cause intermittent traffic stoppages between Seminole Court and Zan Road during nighttime hours from Tuesday to Thursday.

Various roadway improvements in Albemarle County will lead to alternating lane closures in several areas including U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), U.S. 250 Bypass, and Route 743 (Hydraulic Road). Roadway sweeping operations will also result in mobile lane closures in specific locations such as Route 631 (Rio Road West) and Route 649 (Airport Road).

Utility work under a VDOT permit is set to impact traffic flow on routes like Route 751 (Brownsville Road) where both shoulders will be closed daily between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike).

In Culpeper County, mowing activities along U.S. highways such as U.S. 29 (James Monroe Highway) and U.S. 211 (Lee Highway) are scheduled daily with mobile lane closures expected.

Roadway improvements continue in Fauquier County with lane closures anticipated on routes including U.S. 17 Business (Broadview Avenue). Mowing operations are also planned along several highways like U.S.15/29.

Louisa County’s projects include pavement marking operations on Interstate 64 eastbound lanes between mile markers 128 and 134 during nighttime hours Sunday through Thursday.

Further utility works across Madison County may involve slow-moving traffic due to mobile lane closures assisted by Virginia State Police nightly along sections of U.S.29.

These scheduled activities aim to improve infrastructure while minimizing disruptions for travelers within the region.
