In a recent announcement, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) detailed upcoming traffic changes and closures across the Hampton Roads District for the period of April 20-26, 2025. It is noted that some lane closures will be lifted due to holiday travel from April 18 until noon on April 22, per a statewide holiday travel release.

Bridges and tunnels are affected by scheduled single-lane closures, including the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel with westbound closures on April 22 and eastbound closures on April 23. The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel will have a southbound closure on April 24, while on the James River Bridge, Route 17, single-lane closures are scheduled in the southbound direction from April 23-25.

In addition, the Berkley Bridge on I-264 will experience alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions on April 22. Maintenance schedules for the Elizabeth River Tunnels including the Downtown Tunnel and Midtown Tunnel can be accessed through their respective resources.

The ongoing Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project will impose lane closure updates on I-64. Scheduled single-lane closures for the I-64, Gap Segment C Widening project in James City County are set for April 22-25, along with full ramp closures at Croaker Road during April 22-26.

Comprehensive closures and traffic shifts are also planned for the I-64, HREL Hampton 4C Project. Night-time closures cover various ramps and segments from April 22-25, and temporary traffic shifts remain in place.

The I-64, HREL Norfolk 1A project will see alternating single and double-lane closures, and specific ramp closures from April 22 to April 26.

Additional closures affect I-264 and Route 17, with scheduled full on- and off-ramp closures at different sections.

For the full list of traffic adjustments and maintenance alerts, stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official VDOT or HRBT Expansion Project websites. These plans are subject to change depending on weather and other conditions.
