The VCU Rams women’s tennis team ended its season on May 2 after a 4-0 loss to No. 15 Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

This match concluded a successful season for VCU, which included back-to-back Atlantic 10 titles and marked the program’s 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Rams secured their spot with a close 4-3 victory over Fordham in the Atlantic 10 final.

Duke entered the tournament as the No. 15 seed with an overall record of 18-7, following a semifinal loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils had reached the Elite Eight last year before being eliminated by Georgia. Friday’s meeting was the fifth between VCU and Duke.

In singles play, one VCU player won her opening set against No. 52 Aspen Schuman and led early in the second set when play was stopped due to Duke clinching overall victory. Other matches also saw VCU players leading or forcing third sets before they were halted.

The conclusion of this match marks another milestone for VCU women’s tennis as they continue their strong presence within collegiate competition.
