The VCU Rams men’s golf team remained in contention for the team title after the second round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship on April 28 in Orlando, Florida. Freshman Carson Looney led the way for VCU, shooting a 1-under-par 71 and holding onto second place individually at six under par through two rounds.
The tournament is significant as it determines both individual and team honors within the conference. With one round remaining, VCU is tied for second place with Richmond at one over par, four strokes behind leader George Mason.
Looney started his day atop the leaderboard but made the turn at one over before recording birdies on holes ten, eleven, and thirteen to stay close to medalist honors. The Rams shot four over as a team during Tuesday’s round while George Mason posted a combined one under to move ahead in first place heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Sophomore Tanner Cadieux improved from his opening-round score by carding a two-under-par 70, moving him into a tie for twelfth overall. Seniors Braden O’Grady and Zach Felts are currently tied for twenty-sixth at four over par each. Mason Minkel sits tied for thirty-third after two rounds.
VCU leads all teams in Par five scoring with an average of 4.75 strokes per hole. Looney has recorded only two bogeys across thirty-six holes, tying him for fewest in the field.
The championship will conclude Wednesday morning with VCU aiming to overcome its deficit and compete for both individual and team titles.
